For us fantasy football managers it is of utmost importance to be well informed before we start to compose our fantasy football line-ups. As a result we spend hours of researching statistics, but many of us forget to look at one very important source of information: the predictions and expectations of the bookmakers.
These guys are professionals, occupying their working day with gathering news about football and translating this into their quotes or expectations. It would be silly if we wouldn’t take advantage of this and therefor I always advise fantasy football managers to also have a look at what the bookmakers think.
I always have a look at the 3 markets that relate the most to the scoring categories in fantasy football, which are keeping a Clean Sheet, +2.5 Match Goals and Anytime Goalscorer. For this week it is very noticeable that the expectations from the bookmakers points towards goals. In all 10 matches the expectation is at 50% or more chance for 3 goals or more. Some food for thought: on the last play day of the last 4 seasons we saw 1 time 5 matches that went under 2.5 Match goals, and 3 times 4 matches that went under 2.5 Match Goals.
